Report: Jeff Cobb To Receive A Push In NJPW

Big plans for The Hawaiian Hulk...

During New Japan Pro-Wrestling G1 Climax 30, Jeff Cobb put on impressive displays throughout the tournament, defeating Jay White, Shingo Takagi, Tomohiro Ishii and Will Ospreay.

While The Hawaiian Hulk didn't advance to the G1 finals, Dave Meltzer reported on Wrestling Observer Radio that Cobb will be getting a push in NJPW.

Meltzer said: "There is a reason that Cobb won this match (against Ospreay). On the surface, it makes no sense because it took Ospreay out of being in contention at the end and why would you do that? But there actually is a reason for this, because essentially Cobb is getting a push."

How New Japan plans to push the former ROH World Television Champion remains to be seen, but Meltzer noted on a later edition of Wrestling Observer Radio that Cobb was originally going to be Will Ospreay's enforcer in The Ariel Assassin's new faction instead of Great-O-Khan.

He added: "So when I heard about this scenario the guy in that spot was Jeff Cobb… He'd have been the guy in the spot, and he may still end up in that stable because they certainly talked about more people in the stable."
