Report: MJF Undergoes Surgery, Will Be Out Longer Than First Thought

MJF will out of action for a while after having surgery

It is unsavoury news for MJF fans and for AEW, as reports have indicated that the former AEW World Champion will continue to be off television for the foreseeable future. First reported by Jason Solomon on X and confirmed by WrestlePurists, MJF is set to undergo surgery for injuries to his left shoulder.

There was a hope initially that surgery could be avoided and a return as soon as March could take place, with creative plans reportedly discussed between MJF and Tony Khan, but with PT not going as well as expected, he has had to resort to surgery.

Both reports have noted that there is no current timetable for an MJF return to AEW. At the World's End PPV in the fall of 2023, MJF dropped the AEW World Championship to Samoa Joe, before being turned on by former friend Adam Cole in a big angle to close out the show. Injuries to both Cole and MJF have put this story on the backburner. It was known for some time that MJF was banged up after working injured for months, and that if surgery was to take place, the belief was that he could spend up to a year out of action.
