Report: Rey Mysterio Considered Retiring At WWE WrestleMania 39

Rey Mysterio even spoke to Triple H about retiring at WrestleMania 39

According to a new report, Rey Mysterio considered retiring at WrestleMania 39.

The former WWE World Heavyweight Champion is set to be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame as part of the 2023 class ahead of WrestleMania 39. The honour is usually reserved for retired wrestlers but Mysterio will receive his induction as an active talent.

The 48-year-old has reportedly considered hanging up his boots, though, and he spoke to Triple H about retiring at the Showcase of the Immortals, WrestleVotes told GiveMeSport.

"At one point, it was discussed that Rey Mysterio was going to retire at WrestleMania. But I don't think next weekend is his last match, regardless of the Hall of Fame," WrestleVotes said.

Rey is currently locked in a feud with his son Dominik Mysterio and while the match has yet to be made official, the plan is for them to go one-on-one at the Showcase of the Immortals.

Speaking further about Rey's retirement, WrestleVotes noted the current storyline with his son has reinvigorated the former WWE Champion.

"This storyline kind of reinvigorated him a little bit. So I don't know if he agreed to do another full year, let's say and retire at 40. I don't know if he's going to drag this out with Dom until they feel like it's complete," WrestleVotes added.
