Report: WWE Japan Dissolved

The company is no more

WWE Japan has closed its doors, according to a new report.

Game Biz noted today that all WWE Japan investors agreed to dissolve the company on September 1.

Game Biz wrote (translated using DeepL):

"It has been learned that WWE Japan LLC has been dissolved. It was agreed by all the members (referring to the investors) yesterday (1 September). It was revealed in a "public notice of dissolution" published in the "Government Bulletin" dated today (September 2).

"WWE is a Japanese corporation established by the American professional wrestling organisation WWE. WWE Live Japan, which was scheduled for July 2-4 this year, has been cancelled."

WWE often runs an annual live event tour of Japan, but the company have not done so since 2019 because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

WWE once had big ambitions in Japan and Triple H wanted to expand into the Japanese wrestling market in 2020 as part of his "global localisation" strategy. Those plans were scuppered once the COVID-19 pandemic began, though, and any plans to expand were shelved following cost-cutting measures in April 2020.
