SmackDown "Season Premiere" To Include Universal Title Bout, New Day Curtain Call

Two notable matches next week...

Next Friday night's edition of SmackDown is being dubbed the "season premiere", and to accommodate that lofty title, two big matches have been scheduled for the night.

The first is a Universal title match that pits champion Roman Reigns against longtime nemesis Braun Strowman.

The title match comes in advance of Reigns' scheduled defense against Jey Uso at Hell in a Cell on October 25. That match takes place inside the titular structure, and will also be an I Quit match.

In addition, the final match for The New Day as a trio (for the foreseeable future) is set for Friday's SmackDown, as Big E, Kofi Kingston, and Xavier Woods will face Cesaro, Shinsuke Nakamura, and Sheamus.

Woods returned to action on Friday night after a year-long injury layoff, teaming with Kingston to defeat Cesaro and Nakamura for SmackDown's Tag Team titles.

In the immediate aftermath, the next round of the WWE Draft began, and it led to the separation of The New Day. Kingston and Woods were selected to Raw sans Big E, who was then kept on SmackDown with the ensuing pick.
