The Rock 'N' Roll Express Announce Retirement Tour
The legendary team are set to call it a day
Legendary tag-team The Rock ’n’ Roll Express have announced their retirement tour, set to commence on January 22.
The team of Robert Gibson, and Ricky Morton, was one of the most popular teams of the 1980s, enjoying great success in Jim Crockett’s JCP, and Verne Gagne’s AWA, as well as having stints across WWE, Memphis, and on the independent scene.
The news was revealed by Ricky Morton on Twitter, who said:
“Rock & Roll Express Farewell tour begins January 22nd, 2022. I want to focus more with Kerry and behind the scenes in the wrestling business. #onelastride”
Morton later clarified that this was the end of him and Gibson as a team, and not a full retirement saying:
“Specify [sic], Robert and I are retiring from tag team wrestling together. Not appearances/signings. I would like to continue to tag team with my son and work with the younger generation in this glorious business.”
One of the most influential teams in pro wrestling history, the pair enjoyed feuds with The Midnight Express, The Fabulous Ones, The Four Horsemen, and The Midnight Rockers amongst many others.
Recognised as nine-time NWA World Tag Team Champions, The Rock ’n’ Roll Express were also inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2017.
