WWE Issue Statement On WrestleMania 36 Plans Amidst Coronavirus Outbreak

Could The Showcase Of The Immortals Be Cancelled...

In the past couple of weeks, Japanese wrestling promotions like World Wonder Ring Stardom, New Japan Pro-Wrestling, and Pro Wrestling NOAH have cancelled their shows or are holding them behind closed doors until mid-March because of the coronavirus outbreak. As of today, there are 96,267 confirmed cases of the virus, which has caused 3,304 deaths as the disease has spread across the world.

Two cases of coronavirus have also been confirmed in Tampa, Florida, the host city for WrestleMania 36, which led to speculation that WWE could decide to either cancel or move Mania.

In a statement to ESPN, however, the company confirmed they had no plans to cancel or postpone The Showcase Of The Immortals.

WWE wrote: "The health and safety of our fans, performers and employees are our top priorities and we are monitoring the situation closely with our partners and government officials in Tampa Bay. We remain committed to hosting WrestleMania at Raymond James Stadium on Sunday, April 5, and like other entertainment properties in the U.S., there are currently no plans to cancel or postpone our upcoming events."
