WWE NXT Women's Title Match Set For May 11
Raquel Gonzalez will defend the gold for the first time
WWE announced last night that Raquel Gonzalez will defend the NXT Women's Title for the first time against Mercedes Martinez on the May 11 edition of the black and gold brand.
The match was made official following Dakota Kai vs. Mercedes Martinez on last night's NXT. The two women went one on one in the opening contest and the match ended in a disqualification after Gonzalez entered the ring and attacked Martinez.
The NXT Women's Champion then left the 21-year veteran lying after throwing her into the caged barricade and ring post.
The feud between Martinez and Gonzalez has been bubbling away since Raquel won the title at NXT TakeOver: Stand & Deliver. The rivalry went up a notch last week, though, after Kai said Martinez had to go through her to earn a shot at the women's championship.
Gonzalez vs. Martinez won't be the only title match on NXT in the weeks ahead. Candice LeRae and Indi Hartwell will face Shotzi Blackheart and Ember Moon for the NXT Women's Tag Team Championship in a Street Fight on next week's show. Bronson Reed also earned an NXT North American Title opportunity after defeating Austin Theory last night and he will face Johnny Gargano soon.
