AEW star Adam Copeland has undergone successful surgery to repair his fractured tibia.

Copeland suffered the injury during his TNT Title defence against Malakai Black at AEW Double or Nothing (on May 26). The injury occurred when the 50-year-old jumped from the top of the steel cage and hit an elbow drop on Black through a table. He subsequently said that he "got cocky" because he was "having so much fun in the ring".

The TNT Title has since been vacated.

In a post on Instagram, Copeland (who was using crutches and had his leg in a cast) noted that it had been twelve hours since he had the surgery. He proceeded to do some 'planking', keeping his injured foot above the ground as he did so.

A report claimed there was 'universal sadness' within AEW following news that Copeland would require a lengthy layoff. While the exact length of time for recovery is unknown, the NHS say that a severe tibia fracture can take anywhere between three and six months to fully heal (and possibly longer).

In April, The Rated-R Superstar admitted there was a possibility he could retire within the next eighteen months.
