AEW-AAA Issues Lead To Matt Riddle Title Win

The temperamental working relationship between All Elite Wrestling and Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide led to a title change at TripleMania 32 CDMX in Mexico City, Mexico on Saturday, August 17. 

AEW's Komander entered TripleMania as AAA Cruiserweight Champion and defended the belt in a three-way against Matt Riddle and Laredo Kid. Matt Riddle ended up winning the three-way and Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer reported the title change took place to get the AAA Cruiserweight Championship off Komander due to him being signed to AEW. 

The working relationship between AEW and AAA has been strained since the end of 2022, with AEW feeling "double-crossed" after Dragon Lee and Dralistico defeated FTR for the AAA Tag Team Championships in December 2022, only for Dragon Lee to announce after the match that he would be leaving AAA for WWE. Tony Khan didn't take kindly to AAA using AEW talents to put over a soon-to-be WWE wrestler. 

AAA and AEW have continued working together, with the likes of Jeff Jarrett and Satnam Singh also appearing at TripleMania, but AEW have grown much closer to AAA's main rival CMLL and the likes of MJF, Kyle Fletcher, and PAC have all been featured on Arena Mexico shows. Chris Jericho will also take on Mistico at CMLL's 91st anniversary event.
