AEW Announces Round Robin "Continental Classic" Tournament

AEW will host a G1 style tournament

Another big announcement took place on AEW programming last night, as Tony Khan revealed on Collision that the first ever “AEW Continental Classic” would be held over the next couple of months, and it will be a round robin format, similar to that of NJPW’s G1 Climax.

It will be a twelve-man tournament, with two groups of six wrestlers. It will be starting on November 22 and take place across AEW’s various shows with the finals being held at the AEW Worlds End PPV event on December 30 in Long Island, New York.

In a big piece of news regarding the tournament, it was revealed that Bryan Danielson would be the first man in the tournament, despite his orbital bone injury suffered a couple of weeks back in a match against Andrade El Idolo on Collision. Danielson was originally slated to be out of action until 2024, but it looks as though he will be back at least a month sooner than expected, if not more.
