What happened on the final Dynamite of 2021?
Dec 30, 2021
The final AEW Dynamite of 2021 saw a number of returns, outstanding matches, and a final big signing for the promotion.
The show kicked off with the return of Jim Ross to the commentator's booth, after over a month away in which he fought and beat cancer. Dynamite was quick into the action as we got the first two matches straight off the bat, with tag-team bouts opening the episode.
FTR, Private Party, and Matt Hardy were able to get the win over Christian Cage, Jurassic Express, and Lucha Bros following a break down in communication between the face team, while Dania Garcia and 2Point0 saw off Eddie Kingston, Santana and Ortiz. This, in turn, led to the return of Chris Jericho, who helped the faces see off Garcia and 2Point0 before having words with Kingston.
Backstage segments followed, in which MJF told Wardlow he would have to relinquish the AEW TNT Title to him if he won it, while Christian Cage challenged the Lucha Bros to put their AEW Tag Titles on the line next week against Jurassic Express.
Ahead of his in-ring debut later in the show, Kyle O'Reilly was shown having words with Adam Cole about their respective history.
In the Semi-finals of the TBS Women's Championship tournament, Jade Cargill defeated Thunder Rosa after an assist from the newly signed Mercedes Martinez. Cargill will now face Ruby Soho in the Finals next week.
CM Punk then comes out for a promo and notes that MJF says he's 'done' with him. Punk is fine with this but then adds that 'it would be a real shame if someone were to interfere in his quest for gold'.
The final match of the night saw Adam Cole, O'Reilly and Bobby Fish defeat Chaos, but only after O'Reilly accidentally super-kicked Cole, leading to a confused celebration for the winning trio as The Young Bucks explained to Cole what happened as the show went off the air.
