AEW: Dynamite Results - January 26 2022

Beach Break 2022

AEW made their way to a frozen Cleveland, Ohio, for the aptly titled Beach Break 2022 special of Dynamite.

Dynamite kicked off with the undisputed TNT Championship Ladder Match between Cody Rhodes and Sammy Guevara. The two started out by out-wrestling one another, before eventually slugging it out in the crowd, Sammy hitting a cutter on the concrete from the guardrail. The two took their time getting the ladders involved, with Cody soon hitting a massive delayed vertical superplex from near the top of a massive ladder. Rhodes took control of the bout, working Guevara over with ladders and his weightbelt, release front suplexing Guevara onto the struts of an upturned ladder, then locking in a Figure Four through a ladder. Rhodes ascended a ladder in the middle, as Sammy got a second wind, leaping from a different ladder to hit a huge cutter in an absolutely incredible show of athleticism. Rhodes halted Guevara’s momentum by hitting a sickening Crossrhodes from a set of ladders, but couldn’t grab the titles as Guevara clung to his back like Yoda as they dangled from the title hanger. Cody worked over Sammy’s knee as Fuego Del Sol came out to talk sense into Cody only to eat a Tiger Driver, allowing Sammy to connect flush with a GTH to Rhodes. Needing to put Rhodes away, Sammy set ‘The American Nightmare’ up on a ladder draped over the guardrail, and hit a falling swanton bomb from another ladder. The two met for one last battle at the top of the ladder, with Guevara knocking Rhodes down with several forearms and a belt shot to win the undisputed TNT Championship.

Issues between Chris Jericho and The Proud and Powerful intensified, despite the trio picking up a win over Daniel Garcia and 2point0. Santana and Ortiz all but acted like Jericho wasn’t there, with Le Champion frustrated that he couldn’t tag into the bout, Ortiz hitting the hot tag to Santana as Jericho let his frustrations show. Jericho secured the win by hitting a Judas Effect, as P&P nailed a Street Sweeper for the win.

CM Punk came out for a promo, but he was dressed to fight. Punk got to the point and demanded MJF come out for a fight, after ‘The Salt of the Earth’ has repeatedly ducked Punk in recent weeks. MJF made his way to the stage to jawjack with the Cleveland crowd and Punk, before the Pinnacle came to back-up MJF, as FTR, Shawn Spears, and Wardlow attacked Punk. MJF demanded Wardlow powerbomb Punk onto a chair, and after some hesitation the ‘War Dog’ complied, but looked disgusted in himself as he did so.

And in Beach Break’s Main Event, Adam Cole and Orange Cassidy came to blows in an unsanctioned Lights Out Match. Predictably, this was a hard hitting plunder strewn affair, with a fired up Cassidy and Cole hockey fighting from the bell. Cole soon went to grab a chair from beneath the ring, only to pull out Danhausen to a huge pop, with the tooth obsessed ghoul cursing Cole before making his way to the back to massive ‘DANHAUSEN’ chants. Cassidy hit a spinebuster through the timekeeper’s table, but it didn’t keep Cole down for long, with Cole filling the ring with weaponry, before nailing a superkick on a trashcan sporting OC. Cassidy came back with a fire extinguisher, ate a Last Shot, then fired back again nailing a Michinoku Driver through two standing chairs. Best Friends, Rocky Romero, Young Bucks, and Bobby Fish ran out for a brawl, as OC came close with a Beach Break and Orange Punch, but couldn’t capitalise due to his hand being injured. A perfect Panama Sunrise from OC got a two, but before he could hit a chain assisted Orange Punch, Cole ran to the back, nailing a Death Valley Driver through Tony Khan and Jerry Lynn’s table. The pair traded superkicks on the entrance, with Cole countering an Orange Punch with a spotlight. Cole climbed a truss on the entrance, but Cassidy met him on the top, hit a low blow, then hit a hugging side effect off the entrance through the stage, as Cassidy got the win.
