AEW Files Trademark For Possible New Event

A classic pro wrestling event could be set to return.

All Elite Wrestling filed to trademark 'WrestleDream' with the United States Patent and Trademark Office on April 19 for merchandise purposes and pro wrestling events.

The term was trademarked for the following uses:

"IC 025. US 022 039. G & S: Bandanas; Headwear; Pajamas; Pants; Pullovers; Shirts; Shorts; Socks; Sweatpants; Sweatshirts; Underwear; Athletic apparel, namely, shirts, pants, jackets, footwear, hats and caps, athletic uniforms; Clothing belts; Clothing for wear in wrestling games; Jogging suits; Leather belts for clothing; Outer jackets; Polo shirts; Sports shirts; T-shirts; Tank tops; Wrist bands as clothing

"IC 041. US 100 101 107. G & S: Conducting entertainment exhibitions in the nature of wrestling events; Entertainment services in the nature of production of wrestling programs and events; Entertainment in the nature of wrestling contests; Providing entertainment information in the fields of wrestling via a website; Educational and entertainment services, namely, a continuing program about wrestling accessible by radio, television, satellite, audio, video and computer networks; Entertainment services in the nature of live wrestling performances; Entertainment services, namely, production and distribution of ongoing television programs in the field of wrestling; Entertainment services, namely, an ongoing multimedia program featuring wrestling distributed via various platforms across multiple forms of transmission media; Entertainment services, namely, an ongoing series featuring wrestling provided through television and the internet."

Japan's Super World of Sports (SWS) previously held Wrestle Dream in Kobe on April 1, 1991. The promotion was funded by Megane Super (an eyeglasses manufacturer) and poached Genichiro Tenryu from All Japan Pro-Wrestling to be their top star.

SWS had a working relationship with Vince McMahon's WWE which saw Wrestle Dream in Kobe feature the likes of Hulk Hogan, Randy Savage, John Tenta, and Bret Hart alongside Tenryu, Masakatsu Funaki, and Minoru Suzuki. 

SWS would fold in 1992.
