AEW Formally Welcomes "Broken" Matt Hardy To The Company

Prepare Blood and Guts for massacre...

Less than 48 hours after Matt Hardy made his first AEW appearance at the conclusion of this week's Dynamite, the veteran wrestler was formally introduced as part of the promotion's roster on Friday, complete with his "Broken" moniker.

The company tweeted, "Welcome to the team. #Broken @MATTHARDYBRAND is #AllElite".

Hardy had invented the "Broken" gimmick during his time with Impact Wrestling in 2016, ahead of the attention-grabbing and unprecedented "Final Deletion" match with brother Jeff Hardy that spawned all sorts of eclectic characters, quirks, and phrases.

Upon reverting to a similar character in WWE in 2017, Hardy took on the "Woken" handle, though he maintained ownership of the "Broken" nickname, after Impact dropped a claim they'd placed on it.

Hardy left WWE on March 2, ending a three year run with the promotion. After addressing his future in a video posted at the start of that day, the 45-year-old appeared with The Young Bucks in several scenes on his Free the Delete series. His AEW debut on Wednesday was preceded by the arrival of trademark drone Vanguard-1, and an introduction from Matt Jackson.
