AEW In Talks With Shelton Benjamin

People within AEW had previously pushed for Benjamin's signing.

Could The Gold Standard soon become All Elite?

According to a new report from Fightful Select, Shelton Benjamin and Tony Khan's organisation have held talks about the former WWE Intercontinental Champion coming in.

The report noted that while the two sides did not have contact initially (after Benjamin was released by WWE in November), they have had conversations recently. Per Fightful, the two sides have been in contact since as far back as a month ago.

It is unsure at this stage whether Benjamin would be signing a contract or a full-time deal, but the possibility of him making AEW appearances has been discussed.

Furthermore, people within AEW were pushing for the company to sign the 48-year-old when rumours of his WWE contract was coming up began to circulate. That never ended up happening, but Shelton was ultimately released anyway.

Though he has never worked for AEW, Benjamin is a former two-time Ring of Honor World Tag Team Champion, having wrestled for ROH between 2010 and 2013.

Earlier this year, Benjamin told Kurt Angle that he was still weighing up his options after leaving WWE. He wrestled his first post-WWE match on March 9, headlining a World Wrestling Council show in Puerto Rico.
