AEW Made Last-Minute Changes To Dynamite

Rey Fenix was cleared to wrestle on AEW Dynamite

Last-minute changes are rarely made to All Elite Wrestling programming but that wasn't the case for the September 27 edition of Dynamite.

Jon Moxley suffered a minor concussion at AEW Dynamite Grand Slam but his opponent Rey Fenix also suffered an injury during their AEW International Title match.

The undisclosed injury almost kept Fenix out of action for Wednesday night's Dynamite, with AEW CEO Tony Khan revealing 30 minutes before the show went on the air that Fenix had just been cleared for in-ring action. Fenix then defended his AEW International Title against Jeff Jarrett.

"TONIGHT Wednesday Night #AEWDynamite NEXT on @TBSNetwork 8pm ET/7pm CT AEW International Title Match @ReyFenixMx vs @RealJeffJarrett. Moments ago AEW Doctors cleared Rey Fenix to fight TONIGHT, & he's issued an open challenge that was answered by 85-time champion Jeff Jarrett!" Khan tweeted

Dave Meltzer reported on Wrestling Observer Radio the match almost didn't happen and AEW wrote two versions of Dynamite just in case Fenix couldn't wrestle.

"They had to change the show around. The Fenix match almost didn't happen because of the injury that you talked about. Fenix was not cleared, or I should say, it was up in the air if he would be cleared. He had not been cleared. He did get cleared to wrestle in this match, but it was not until late in the afternoon. So they had apparently put together a show without him, and then they had to change it to put the match with Jarrett on, which was basically a late addition to the show. And then Moxley wasn't cleared due to the concussion. So, a lot of planned stuff must have changed because of all that," Meltzer said.

When Jon Moxley will return to the ring has not been revealed. Rey Fenix will be in action at WrestleDream when he teams with Lucha Brothers tag team partner Penta El Zero Miedo in a Four-Way to earn a shot at the AEW World Tag Team Championships at any time.
