AEW Revolution 2022 Results

All the action from AEW’s first PPV of 2022

It’s Sunday night, and you know what that means, as AEW broadcast their first PPV of 2022 - Revolution, live from Orlando, Florida’s Addition Financial Arena.

Leyla Hirsch def. Kris Statlander - The Buy In
Statlander had anger in her eyes as she finally squared off against Hirsch after months of animosity. Statlander enjoyed control of the early exchanges, but Hirsch soon took control, dropkicking the ring steps into Statlander’s arm on the outside. ‘Legit’ continued to work over Statlander’s arm, but ‘The Alien’ wouldn’t stay down, with the two going back-and-forth. Hirsch later fought out of a Big Bang Theory attempt on the apron, before launching Statlander with a Frankensteiner off to the floor.

Statlander kept on fighting back, but Hirsch had a plan, smashing Kris in the head with a spare turnbuckle rod then landing a double jump moonsault for the win.

Post-match, Red Velvet ran to the ring to check on Statlander

Tony Schiavone was ready to interview a returning Kenny Omega as the crowd went wild, only for boos to rain down as Don Callis walked out instead. Callis lambasted the crowd with a ‘you people’ promo, before hyping up The Elite’s chances in their title matches on the show. The ex-Jackal then pivoted, saying Adam Cole will be a great transitional AEW World Champion before Kenny ‘BY GOD’ Omega takes the title back.

Hook def. QT Marshall - The Buy In
QT cut a promo on his way to the ring, but the crowd were only there for Hook, who manhandled the veteran Marshall from the off, hitting a series of throws and a gorgeous exploder suplex. QT cheap shot and threw him to the outside, but ate a capture suplex on the floor for his troubles. QT got some licks in, but after missing a Diamond Cutter attempt, Hook got the tap-out win with Redrum.

The House of Black def. Penta Oscuro, PAC, & Erick Redbeard - The Buy In
AEW in-ring debut time for Buddy Matthews and Erick Redbeard for a truly death metal trios match. This  match was fast and furious, and included some good old fashioned hoss fight action when Redbeard and King squared off. The action soon spilled to the outside as all six men battered one another around the ring.

The House eventually took control, working over PAC, until Penta got the hot tag and ran riot spiking Buddy with a wonderful roll-through Canadian Destroyer. All six men fought in-ring, with King trying his darndest to clothesline Redbeard off his feet, before putting the big man down with a Death Valley Driver and a huge suicide dive. Penta hit a crushing Fear Factor on Malakai on the apron, before eating a curbstomp from Buddy. The House eventually swarmed Redbeard, spraying corruption, hitting a V-Trigger, and a form of a Michinoku Driver for the win.

Eddie Kingston def. Chris Jericho
No pageantry from Eddie who marched out looking for a fight after the usual Judas love-in for Jericho. Kingston went full King’s Road, dropping Jericho on top of his head with a half-and-half suplex. The two chopped, slapped, and punched the hell out of one another, going full All Japan style, with Kingston ripping Jericho with Kobashi machine gun chops in the corner. Jericho repeatedly targeted Eddie’s injured eye, with the Orlando crowd throwing their support right behind ‘The Mad King’.

Jericho was antagonising the crowd throughout, flipping them off, and using every underhand tactic to try get the advantage, but also hit some big German suplexes and a Lionsault for a near fall. Undeterred, ‘The Influencer’ locked in the Walls of Jericho, but Kingston made the ropes. A frustrated Jericho argued with referee Aubrey Edwards, allowing Kingston to come back with a series of backdrops and the Uraken, but he could only get a two-count.

Jericho taunted Eddie, but ate nothing but exposed turnbuckle when he went for Judas Effect. Eddie capitalised, hit two backfists, and a Stretch Plum to get the hard earned tap out win.

Post-match, Eddie told Jericho he respects him and offered his hand, but Jericho reneged on his word, blanking Kingston and leaving the ring.

Jurassic Express (c) def. ReDRagon & The Young Bucks - AEW World Tag Team Championships
Despite it being a triangle tag match, it was more like four on two, as The Bucks and ReDRagon continued their alliance in the ring, the four men working together to keep the champs at bay.

Cracks quickly appeared in their fragile alliance, but they continued to beat down Luchasaurus and Jungle Boy as tensions increased. Jungle Boy fired back whenever he had an opening, but JB took a shellacking as The Bucks and ReDRagon argued, before Kyle O’Reilly ‘accidentally’ nailed Matt Jackson with a big boot, allowing the hot tag to Luchasaurus who ran riot with chokeslams, kicks, and moonsaults left right and centre.

Matt Jackson had his turn to ‘accidentally’ superkick Bobby Fish, before The Bucks and ReDRagon started teeing off on each other in the ring. Jungle Boy absorbed some more punishment from ReDRagon before all Hell broke loose. Pins were broken up with Shooting Star Presses and 450 Splashes as the crowd went ballistic, Jungle Boy absorbed a belt shot and a Total Elimination from KOR, before The Bucks regrouped and threw some Superkick Parties and a BTE Trigger… but only got a two.

The Bucks had victory in their grasp, but the champs fought back to hit Thoracic Express to retain the belts.

Wardlow def. Keith Lee, Powerhouse Hobbs, Orange Cassidy, Christian Cage, & Ricky Starks - Face of the Revolution Ladder Match
As big beefy boys Lee, Wardlow, and Hobbs readied for a slugfest, Orange Cassidy rolled in for his super sloth kicks, as Dan Lambert, Men of the Year, and Paige VanZant watched on.

Classic fast paced high intensity ladder match action, that saw Keith Lee use Orange Cassidy as a battering ram, before OC did the classic Terry Funk ladder spot, as bodies went flying all over the ring. The inclusion of beefy boys Wardlow, Hobbs, and Lee made for some unique spots, as the trio used their raw power to gain advantages in the bout.

The action spilled up the ramp, with Wardlow shoulder barging Lee and Hobbs off the stage through tables, effectively writing the pair out of the game. Things only got more chaotic as Danhausen appeared to curse Ricky Starks, the curse coming true as Wardlow crunched Starks onto a ladder with a powerbomb before grabbing the brass ring.

Tony Schiavone had a special contract signing on the entrance ramp, as Shane ‘Swerve’ Strickland made his much rumoured debut. Swerve signed his contract, and asked the AEW crowd whose house it was.

Jade Cargill (c) def. Tay Conti - AEW TBS Championship
Jade looked a million dollars as she was played to the ring by Christone ‘Kingfish’ Ingram, dressed like Jade from Mortal Kombat, whilst Tay was accompanied to the ring by Anna Jay and Negative One.

The match started quickly, as Jade kissed Tay to distract her before going for a quick Jaded, to no avail. Jade taunted Tay and her ‘karate s***’ but it only fired the Brazilian up, who peppered the champ with several big kicks and a tornado DDT. Tay’s momentum saw her wipe out ‘Smart’ Mark Sterling with a somersault, as Cargill pump kicked Anna Jay into the timekeeper’s table.

Jay got her revenge with a sneaky steel chair shot, allowing Tay to get a near fall from a DDTay. Jade fought out of a TayKO attempt to nail the Eye of the Storm (Tour of the Islands) before hitting a pitch-perfect frog splash for a two. Tay also went to the high-risk district, but Jade pushed her from the top, before catching Conti and slamming in Jaded for the successful defence, going 29-0 in the process.

CM Punk def. MJF - Dog Collar Match
MJF finally did it, as ‘Cult of Personality’ hit before cutting out as The Pinnacle mastermind ruined the moment and made his way to the ring. Punk went back to the old school as AFI’s ‘Miseria Cantare’ played over the PA and Ring of Honor Punk made his way to the ring - basketball shorts, track jacket, the lot. Amazing scenes.

Big fight feel as Punk was introduced as ‘The Second City Saint’ before the two rivals were chained together. MJF looked rattled as a determined Punk started on the front foot. MJF soon found his footing, opening Punk’s fresh forehead wound with a chained fist, as Punk donned the crimson mask. MJF asked for a ‘f****** mic’ as he demanded Punk tell the fans he quit on them, but Punk just told Friedman to ‘eat s***’ before yanking him from the top with the chain.

Punk launched an assault on MJF with the chain, targeting Friedman’s hand, but the ‘Salt of the Earth’ kept his head, and wriggled out of a GTS attempt to choke a very bloodied Punk. Punk went for GTS again but MJF locked in the Fujiwara Armbar, before Punk countered into an Anaconda Vice as blood poured out of his forehead.

After thwarting a Heatseeker attempt, Punk smashed MJF out the ring with a chain assisted Shining Wizard, and it was MJF’s turn to bleed. Punk went for another Shining Wizard, but MJF dodged as Punk careened into the steel stairs. Punk went for a GTS yet again, but his knees gave out from underneath him, but they stayed in place as Punk nailed a Tombstone on the apron after reversing out of a Tombstone from MJF.

While on the front-foot, Punk wrapped his arm and went for the Macho Man elbow but missed, allowing MJF to grab a back of thumbtacks from under the ring. After some jockeying back and forth over the tacks, Punk knew he had to go truly old school and attempted a Pepsi Plunge to no avail, before MJF hit a superplex into the tacks, Punk taking the brunt of the tacks in his backside.

With Punk down, MJF screamed for Wardlow, as the new ‘Face of the Revolution’ sauntered to the ring. Wardlow forgot to bring the Dynamite Diamond Ring as Punk nailed a GTS into the tacks, as ‘War Dog’ realised he had the ring after all, leaving it in the ring for Punk to use as the crowd went crazy. Punk slipped the ring on, gave MJF the bird, then cracked him in the forehead to get the win.

Britt Baker (c) def. Thunder Rosa - AEW Women’s World Championship
A brand new big gold Women’s World Championship belt was on the line as old rivals Britt Baker and Thunder Rosa fought for the championship.

The crowd were split down the middle as the two squared off, with Reba/Rebel and Jamie Hayter watching on at ringside. After starting slowly, Baker soon took control of the bout, wearing down Rosa with a series of strikes and throws.

Baker worked over Rosa’s face and jaw to loosen her up for Lockjaw, but Rosa came firing back with several dropkicks and a Northern Lights Suplex for a two. Rosa went for double knees in the corner but was caught and dropped in an Air Raid Crash as Baker came back into the bout.

DMD fired off on Rosa some more before donning the glove ready for Lockjaw, but she took too long, allowing Rosa to fire back and land a superplex, floated over into a fireman’s carry spinning neckbreaker. Baker fought back, trying to sink the Lockjaw to little avail. The two then jockeyed for position on the top, as Baker hit an avalanche Air Raid Clash for a close two, before Rosa looked to have things won with a Tombstone, if not for Rebel distracting the referee.

In the confusion, Hayter grabbed the title so Baker could hit a big stomp into the gold, but again could only get a two. Rosa then rolled out of a Lockjaw attempt before attempting one of her own. Rebel distracted the ref again as Britt tapped to a straightjacket, leading to an angered Rosa spearing Rebel off the apron and clocking Hayter with a lariat. However, this just gave Baker enough time to hit a second stomp, and retain the title.

Jon Moxley def. Bryan Danielson
‘WE WANT VIOLENCE’ chants rang out as Mox and Danielson locked up, with both men looking to beat each other senseless in the name of professional wrestling.

This was at times a p***ing contest, with both men launching stiff strikes to try and establish dominance, with a few mocking starjumps thrown in for good measure by both men. Danielson took control after peppering Moxley with some stiff kicks and chops, but it did nothing but awaken Mox, who fired back with some heavy strikes of his own.

Danielson’s posturing got the better of him as he missed the Swandive headbutt, but it was a momentary lapse, as ‘American Dragon’ launched into Mox in the corner. Mox fired back with a German Suplex and a Saito Suplex, but Danielson wouldn’t stay down.

Mox took shot after shot to the chest and asked for more, seemingly wanting Danielson to throw everything at him before the two both attempted suicide dives before having a hockey fight outside the ring, with both men bleeding as a result. The fighting continued in the ring, until Mox absolutely crushed Danielson with the King Kong Lariat.

Moxley was fired up, but again Danielson would not stay down, cutting Mox off on the top before dropping a massive top rope backdrop. The two counter wrestled on the mat looking for submissions, with Mox locking in a deep armbar, before ‘Dragon’ transitioned into the LeBell Lock. Mox fought out though, stomping the s*** out of Danielson before sinking the Bulldog Choke, although Danielson himself fought out with a capture suplex and Busaiku Knee for two.

Danielson locked in the flexing triangle choke, and despite punching Mox repeatedly in the face, Mox managed to roll through and pin Danielson with his own manoeuvre for the shock win.

Post-match an incensed Danielson kicked Mox, and the two continued to brawl wildly as security spilled all over the ring until William Regal broke them up to a huge ovation, delivering a stiff slap to Moxley, and one to Danielson for good measure before convincing the two to shake hands. What this means going forward is anyone’s guess…

Darby Allin, Sammy Guevara, & Sting def. The AHFO - Tornado Trios Match
We had one of Darby’s black and white mini movies before his entrance, showing a funeral for the AHFO before Allin ploughed a car through a trailer, before Sting set everything fire with a flamethrower. Why not.

Darby wasted no-time, bum rushing Andrade and clotheslining him over the top rope as this became all out warfare. Sting popped a bin on Jose the Assistant and sat him on a chair as Darby took him out with a suicide dive, before Andrade ran through the faces with chairs and delayed suplexes.

The action was frenetic and frenzied, as all six men fought all over the ringside area, with Marc Quen getting involved, Private Party hitting Silly String on Guevara on the floor. The Butcher and Blade also made their presence felt, attacking Sting and Darby in the crowd, as Sammy fired off the entranceway with a monstrous Spanish Fly on Isiah Kassidy through a table.

As Hardy and Sting fought their way further into the crowd, Darby deposited Andrade on a stack of tables as Sting defied age and gravity to soar from a balcony and land a perfect splash on Andrade through the wood.

Back in the ring, Hardy looked manic as he readied a Twist of Hate, but Darby nailed a Scorpion Death Drop through a chair and a glancing Coffin Drop to get the win.

‘Hangman’ Adam Page (c) def. Adam Cole - AEW World Championship
Cole came to the ring wearing some Halo Spartan armour, while the champ was all business as Justin Roberts did the big match in-ring introductions.

Much to J.R.’s delight, the crowd chanted “let’s go Adam” as the match kicked off, with Hangman getting the early advantage, repeatedly out-striking Cole all over the ringside area. Cole soon fought his way into the bout, hitting the Last Shot but only getting a one count.

Cole’s aggression started to show, trash talking Hangman as he looked to assert his dominance. Cole went for an early Panama Sunrise but ate a big boot, before Hangman sank a big Fallaway Slam, and a inside-out springboard lariat, hurting his arm in the process. Page continued his run, pop-up powerbombing Cole into the apron, then flattening him with a beautiful top rope moonsault press.

Page continued strongly, but ate dirt when Cole nailed a superkick mid-moonsault. Cole tuned up the band for another superkick but ate a Deadeye, kicking out at the death. Page recovered as the two again exchanged standing strikes, but Cole worked over the champ’s arm some more with an armbar, and an armwringer on the apron. Never rule a cowboy out though, as Hangman sank a Tombstone, but again could only get a two count.

Both men had nothing to lose as they exchanged more strikes in the middle of the ring, Cole getting a two this time after a Last Shot. Cole again went for Panama Sunrise, but was cut off, Hangman crushing the challenger with a moonsault slam from the top.

As Hangman readied for the Buckshot, ReDRagon distracted him as he ate a superkick, and a Panama Sunrise on the floor, but miraculously the champ kicked out. Cole went for another Panama Sunrise and The BOOM after some more ReDRagon interference, but again could only get a two. The champ was out on his knees as Cole hit two Superkicks, but Page landed a lariat and ate several more superkicks as Cole was anxiously looking for another BOOM.

ReDRagon set a table up at ringside, but Hangman got his bearings to hit a Deadeye through the wood, before Dark Order rushed to the ring to check on the champ. Dark Order rushed O’Reilly and Fish and ran them out of town, allowing Hangman to finally land the Buckshot… for two, as Cole reached the ropes.

In a measure of revenge, Page tied Cole to the top rope with his belt and nailed a series of superkicks, before eating a receipt from the challenger. Hangman hit one more superkick, then hit a BOOM of his own, and another Buckshot for the successful defence.

Page made it through another hard hitting war to hold his title aloft, before shaking hands with the downed Cole as Revolution went off the air.
