With the ongoing professional rivalry between WWE and AEW growing in significance week-by-week, talk is often made as to how each promotion fares in the ‘key 18 - 49 audience demographic’.

To many these are just seemingly meaningless numbers, but as AEW’s Jim Ross explained on the Grilling JR podcast, these numbers are what attracts significant advertisers:

“That’s why everybody lives and dies on the 18-49 ratings,” Ross said. “A lot of people don’t understand why that number is so important to cultivate and monitor. That’s what the networks sell, their ad sales target 18-49-year-old people. That’s why the 18-49 number is so important for all advertisers. The better we do ratings-wise, we hope at some point in time that Tony [Khan] recoups and moves forward, and let’s see how that works out.”

Lucrative sponsorships are gold to any television or sports broadcast, with WWE enjoying partnerships with brands such as Snickers, KFC, and Mountain Dew amongst others in recent years.
