AEW's Tony Khan: "I Am The Forbidden Door"

The AEW Owner Made The Claim On This Week’s IMPACT Wrestling...

You may have seen some talk of ‘forbidden doors’ recently, and while you’d be forgiven in thinking it was an item from Dungeons & Dragons fan-fiction, it is in fact the code-word for the relationship between AEW and NJPW.

Yesterday we compiled contrasting statements from AEW and NJPW performers about the nature of the working relationship, and now AEW owner Tony Khan has had his say.

Appearing on IMPACT Wrestling with Tony Schiavone in one of their weekly paid promotional spots, the two hyped up this week’s AEW: Dynamite main event of Kenny Omega and KENTA vs Jon Moxley and Lance Archer.

Khan said: “Everywhere I go, people have been asking me for months ‘Tony, when are you going to open the forbidden door? When is New Japan coming to AEW?’ And I kept telling ‘em I don’t know where the forbidden door is, what it is.

“Then I figured it out; all along, the forbidden door was me! I’m the forbidden door, I just had to open myself.”

Khan later added: “One thing I do know, the forbidden door has been opened, and I can’t wait for this week’s main event on AEW: Dynamite.”

Although all these riddles about forbidden doors are a bit long in the tooth, it is undeniable that this is a very exciting time to be a wrestling fan, and with one of the biggest wrestling fans in Tony Khan pulling the strings, who knows what could happen.

Tony Khan finished his promo with: “I wanna do more big ratings. I want to have more people show up. Let’s do this every week.”

We’ll have to see if there are any more developments in this burgeoning AEW/NJPW relationship tonight on AEW: Dynamite.
