AEW Stadium Stampede Going From Taped To Live Was Sammy Guevara’s Idea

The big brawl headlined last weekend’s Double Or Nothing PPV

The climax to AEW Double Or Nothing 2021 was the return of the Stadium Stampede, pitting The Inner Circle vs. The Pinnacle. Part cinematic match, part live bout, it received a rapturous reaction from fans in attendance, as Sammy Guevara got the win for The Inner Circle.

Now, The Spanish God himself has spoken more about the match, telling Busted Open Radio:

"It was my idea to have the match go from cinematic to live crowd and they went with it. I was surprised. Tony [Khan] and Chris [Jericho] came up to me and were like, 'that's a really good idea.' I figured other guys came up to him and told him that idea but no one else did so they gave me credit for it.”

The first Stadium Stampede match at Double Or Nothing 2020 was wholly cinematic match, due to empty arena shows being the norm as the Covid-19 pandemic was at a peak. Whether the match will be a staple of Double Or Nothing going forward is yet unknown, and if it does return it’ll be interesting to see what format it takes.
