Report: Chris Jericho No Longer Under Contract With NJPW

He last appeared in NJPW back at Wrestle Kingdom 14

Chris Jericho is no longer under contract with New Japan Pro-Wrestling, according to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.

Reports back in December 2020 noted Le Champion's NJPW deal may have expired, but it has finally been confirmed that this is the case.

Jericho's $100,000 per match deal with the Japanese promotion expired after his Wrestle Kingdom 14 match with Hiroshi Tanahashi in January 2020. Harold Meij was reluctant to bring The Painmaker back because of the cost, but the Dutchman has since been replaced as NJPW president and there is renewed interest within New Japan about using Jericho after the COVID-19 pandemic.

The former IWGP Intercontinental Champion is also keen on a return and he recently named Jay White, Kota Ibushi, Will Ospreay and Minoru Suzuki as NJPW wrestlers he would love to work with.
