AEW Tables Plans For Swerve Strickland Vs. Keith Lee Singles Match

Keith Lee vs. Swerve Strickland won't be having an AEW singles match after all

The tag team split of Keith Lee and Swerve Strickland will ultimately never be properly resolved.

According to Fightful Select, tentative plans for a Keith Lee vs. Swerve Strickland singles match as part of the fallout from the Blind Eliminator Tag Team Tournament this summer have been tabled. Plans were originally in motion for the match to take place back in July but AEW has ultimately decided to scrap the singles match. There is no word on why AEW decided to do so.

Keith Lee and Swerve Strickland were a tag team for much of 2022, during which they had a 70-day reign as AEW World Tag Team Champions, but their alliance came to an end in December of last year after Strickland turned on Lee to form Mogul Affiliates (now Mogul Embassy).

Lee took some time off following the turn but he returned in early 2023. Lee and Strickland then faced off in tag team action on a March episode of Rampage in a match won by Keith Lee and Dustin Rhodes.

Reports noted plans were in place for Lee and Strickland to have a singles match at Double or Nothing but those plans ended up being scrapped. Lee and Strickland then briefly reunited in the Blind Eliminator Tag Team Tournament, losing in the first round, and plans to continue the programme were ultimately tabled, as mentioned.

Swerve Strickland currently finds himself in a programme with Hangman Page on AEW TV. The two competitors will face off at AEW WrestleDream on October 1. Keith Lee picked up a victory over Zicky Dice on an August episode of Collision in his most recent AEW match.
