AJ Styles suffered what is reported to be a separated shoulder during the 2020 men's Royal Rumble match, but may be cleared in time for WrestleMania 36.

Styles sustained the injury after being speared by Edge, shortly after the returning Hall of Famer entered the fray. Styles landed awkwardly while cutting a flip off of the spear, and had to be eliminated shortly after, well before his planned exit from the match.

Styles, it should be noted, doesn't blame Edge for the injury, and chalked it to him just taking a big bump and landing wrong.

A WWE release on the matter claims that Styles is "way ahead" of doctors' projections for a return to the ring.

Dave Meltzer of The Wrestling Observer Newsletter

reports that Styles is "optimistically" four to six weeks away from a full recovery, which would put his comeback sometime around late February to early March at the earliest.

WrestleMania 36 is scheduled to take place on Sunday, April 5, from Raymond James Stadium in Tampa.
