Alberto Del Rio Claims A WWE Return Was Going To Happen Last Year

Alberto Del Rio thinks a WWE return was on the cards

Death, taxes, and any word from Alberto Del Rio’s mouth being taken with a pinch of salt.

Del Rio has been absent from WWE for a number of years now, getting fired back in 2014 and never being seen in the promotion again. Periodically, a rumour will start (often by the man himself) that a return to WWE is in the works or was previously in the works. This has happened once again.

Per Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Del Rio claimed following a match on October 5th that he was on his way back to the company last year, all the way up until Vince McMahon lost power. Meltzer would also mention that Del Rio has been down this road before, and of course no return has ever surfaced.

Del Rio found quite a lot of success during his short WWE career, winning the Royal Rumble just months after his debut, following this up with a Money in the Bank victory later in the year, before going on to win the WWE Championship, World Heavyweight Championship, and United States Championship all on two occasions each.
