Apollo Crews Drops Gimmick, Returns To WWE NXT
Could a showdown with Bron Breakker be in his future?
Jun 8, 2022
Apollo Crews has dropped his gimmick and returned to NXT, with his sights seemingly set on NXT Champion Bron Breakker.
Crews appeared on last night's episode (without Commander Azeez or a Nigerian accent) after Breakker asked the NXT locker room who wanted to step up to the challenge.
The former Intercontinental Champion said that he missed the energy of NXT and that he had left way too soon, before accomplishing all that he wanted to. Apollo then said that he and Breakker would one day make history and the two shook hands to end the segment.
In the show's main event, Crews teamed with Solo Sikoa to beat Carmelo Hayes and Grayson Waller (with Crews scoring the pin).
Since being drafted to Raw last year, Apollo has mainly competed on Main Event. His last match on the show was a victory over Akira Tozawa on the episode that aired on June 2.
Crews originally wrestled on NXT between 2014 and 2016, before debuting on the post-WrestleMania 32 episode of Raw.
He came back to NXT for a one-off in the summer of 2019, losing to Kushida.
