Much has been said about TKO’s influence in the ongoings of WWE programming, with it emerging in the lead up to WrestleMania 42 that Pat McAfee’s injection into the Randy Orton vs. Cody Rhodes storyline was a direct influence from Ari Emanuel, who sought to boost ticket sales and increase “corporate synergy” between WWE & ESPN with McAfee’s involvement in the feud.

When it comes to all ongoings across WWE programming, it is stated in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter by Dave Meltzer that TKO higher ups Mark Shapiro and Ari Emanuel have the final say on everything. On the back of comments made by Shapiro to students at the University of Alabama this week in which he revealed TKO has full creative control over WWE, it is stated by Meltzer that this is indeed true, though Shapiro and Emanuel do not often exercise this power, only inserting themselves at particular times such as McAfee’s WrestleMania involvement.

It was reported this week that recently released Aleister Black was instead scheduled to be the “voice” in Randy Orton’s ear in original WrestleMania plans, before things changed and McAfee was thrust into the spotlight. Following the bad reaction to this angle, McAfee noted that he had left the wrestling business forever with plans changing in the main event of WrestleMania 42 Saturday due to the backlash from fans.
