Athena and Willow Nightingale want the top spot at ROH Death Before Dishonor
Athena is set to put her Ring of Honor Women’s Championship on the line against Willow Nightingale at ROH Death Before Dishonor 2023 on July 21, with both competitors lobbying for the main event slot of the show.
It was assumed that ROH World Champion Claudio Castagnoli vs. Mark Briscoe would headline the event, but with Briscoe out due to injury and no opponent named for Castagnoli it seems there’s an opening for the show’s closer.
Athena took to Twitter to lobby for the main event slot, Tweeting the following:
“Fine. @TonyKhan @StokelyHathaway Poppa Jerry Lynn, I'll do the match!!! Only if I am the main event and I get a special entrance!!!! The #ForeverROHchamp and #FallenGoddess has spoken!!! Minions what do you say!!!???!!! #AthenaVsWillowMainEvent #DeathBeforeDishonor #ROHDBD”
Nightingale agreed, replying with:
“I think this is actually one thing we could agree on #AthenaVsWillowMainEvent”
Since relaunching in 2022, no women’s matches have main evented a Ring of Honor PPV, with the men’s ROH World Championship, and the ROH World Tag Team Titles having been featured in the top slot.
