Backstage News On Alexa Bliss & Nikki Cross Winning Women's Tag Team Championships On WWE Raw
Why not at SummerSlam?

Aug 10, 2019
Monday's WWE Raw saw the tandem of Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross become the third-ever WWE Women's Tag Team Champions.
The odd couple won the titles in a Fatal 4-Way Elimination match that also involved The Kabuki Warriors, Fire & Desire, and of course the former champions, The IIconics.
Some fans were shocked to see the titles change hands a matter of days before the Biggest Party Of The Summer, and one of WWE's fabled Big Five pay-per-views, SummerSlam.
However, per a report in this week's
Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Paul Heyman made the call with Dave Meltzer noting this was probably done so a monumental title change such as this could be given a more prominent role, rather than being lost in the shuffle in a massive PPV card.
"The women’s tag team title match where Nikki Cross & Alexa Bliss won the titles in a four-way over the champs, the Iiconics, an elimination match that also included Asuka & Kairi Sane and Mandy Rose & Sonya Deville was pulled off the SummerSlam card and moved to Raw six nights earlier,"
Meltzerwrote.
"That was said to be a Paul Heyman decision, probably figuring the title change would mean more with a longer match and could be showcased better rather then being a forgotten part of a long show. At one point Asuka & Sane were being groomed for the titles not all that long ago."
