Backstage News On Jack Perry's Unprotected Chair Shot At AEW Blood & Guts

What happened for Jack Perry's unprotected chair shot at AEW Blood & Guts

A normal steel chair, fortunately, was not used for the unprotected chair shot to Jack Perry's head during the Blood & Guts match on AEW Dynamite.

All Elite Wrestling held their fourth Blood & Guts match at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee as Team AEW (Swerve Strickland, Mark Briscoe, Darby Allin, and The Acclaimed) faced off with The Elite (The Young Bucks, Kazuchika Okada, Jack Perry, and Hangman Page).

The finish saw Jack Perry be handcuffed to the cage, during which he took an unprotected chair shot to the head from Mark Briscoe, who used Perry's own 'scapegoat' chair.

Speculation on social media suggested the chair was gimmicked and Bryan Alvarez confirmed on Wrestling Observer Radio that was indeed the case.

"I can tell you this, it was one of the shaved-down chairs. I don't know how shaved down that is, I don't know how soft that is, but it was a gimmicked chair. But still, they waffled that dude with that chair," Alvarez said.

Unprotected chair shots have become incredibly rare in pro wrestling due to the damage such spots have caused in the past, with a number of wrestlers suffering from memory loss and other issues later in life.

After Jack Perry took the chair shot, Darby Allin proceeded to douse him in gasoline. Team AEW then won after Allin repeatedly threatened to set Perry on fire, with Matthew Jackson agreeing to give Darby a TNT Title match at All In before the AEW EVP said, "I quit."
