Backstage News On Johnny Gargano's WWE Return

After several months off WWE TV, Johnny Gargano made his return on the October 2 edition of Monday Night Raw in San Jose, California.

Gargano made his return to save Tommaso Ciampa from an Imperium beatdown following Ciampa's unsuccessful challenge of Gunther for the Intercontinental Championship in the main event of Raw. Gargano and Ciampa ended up reuniting and reforming #DIY in the process, with the tag team ending Raw standing tall following a Meeting in the Middle. 

According to Mike Johnson of PWInsider, Gargano's return was a late creative decision. Plans were locked in for Gargano to return near the end of the weekend and Gargano travelled to San Jose early on Monday. He was kept hidden backstage at Raw in order to keep his return a surprise. 

Johnny Gargano had been off TV since mid-May. The former NXT Champion wasn't dealing with an injury, Fightful Select reported, and WWE seemingly just decided to pull him from TV. Gargano has wrestled sporadically at house shows over the past several weeks, losing squash matches to Omos.
