Backstage Reaction To R-Truth's WWE SmackDown Promo

Prior to his match at Saturday Night’s Main Event against John Cena, R-Truth cut a promo on this past week’s episode of Friday Night SmackDown on May 23. 

Truth spoke to the crowd at the Enmarket Arena in Savannah, Georgia, discussing the fact that he felt a change in the newly heel John Cena, commenting on the fact that he stopped returning his texts and calls, and became a shell of his former self. Truth battled through the ravenous “What?” chants from the audience to deliver an impassioned promo about beating the ‘Hustle, Loyalty, and Respect’ back into his childhood hero, because the man he sees today is not the Cena he looked up to. By the end of the promo, the fans were firmly on the side of Truth. 

Fightful Select have learned of WWE’s response to R-Truth’s promo, and it was overwhelmingly positive. It is noted that Truth’s promo received a ‘great reaction’ from those backstage, which could bode well for more opportunities. Truth ultimately came up short at the Saturday Night’s Main Event show to Cena, who successfully walked out as Undisputed WWE Champion after cheating his way to another win. Cena wasn’t finished on the show, attacking Jey Uso in the main event, prompting the return of Cody Rhodes.
