Big E Vs. Seth Rollins Announced For WWE Day 1

The first WWE title match of 2022

The first match has been announced for WWE Day 1, as WWE champion Big E will defend his title against Seth Rollins on New Year's Day.

During the opening of Monday's Raw, the title match was announced for the pay-per-view by Rollins himself. Rollins became number one contender after winning a four way ladder match over Finn Balor, Kevin Owens, and Rey Mysterio on the October 25 Raw.

Rollins subsequently defeated Balor on tonight's Raw, one week after laying him out in an attack angle.

The match will mark the first time Rollins has challenged for the WWE title in a televised bout since the 2020 Money in the Bank, when he lost to Drew McIntyre.

Big E has reigned as WWE champion since cashing in his Money in the Bank briefcase on Bobby Lashley on September 13. He's made successful televised defenses of the title against Lashley, McIntyre, and Austin Theory since then.

WWE Day 1 is scheduled for Saturday, January 1, at the Allstate Arena in Atlanta. No other matches have been announced for the card so far.
