Billy Gunn Teases Retirement, Leaves Boots In The Ring On AEW Collision

Billy Gunn could be hanging up the boots

Last night on the July 22 edition of AEW Collision, Billy Gunn heavily teased that he was hanging up his boots for good and retiring from professional wrestling. Although the moment was presented more as an angle, wrestling has sometimes seen some very abrupt retirements from those who don’t want all the faff and pomp of a big farewell.

The Acclaimed and “Daddy Ass” Billy Gunn challenged The House of Black for the AEW World Trios Titles, losing out for a second time in a row in their pursuit for gold. In the lead-up, The Acclaimed had been pushing the idea of Gunn getting his hands on a title one last time before riding off into the sunset, though this loss looks to have tipped him over the edge as he loosened his boots, removed them, and then proceeded to leave them in the middle of the ring - which is a long played out tradition in the business when it comes to retirement - before storming to the back.

It remains to be seen whether this is the start of the story or in fact Gunn taking an under-the-radar trip into retirement.
