Of all the releases WWE made on last Thursday, April 15, none was more shocking than the release of Samoa Joe.

A former Intercontinental Champion and two-time NXT Champion, Joe was viewed by many fans as one of WWE best wrestlers, and now Booker T has given his opinion on the Samoan Submission Machine’s release.

Taking to his Hall of Fame podcast, Booker was as surprised as the rest of us by Joe’s release, saying:

"He was on the sidelines, but I always thought Joe was going to do that job. Joe is like me - he's kind of like a utility guy. 'You need me over here, I'll do that; you need me over here, I'll do that.' And be content with actually doing that, not being consumed with: 'Man, I got to get back in the ring, I'm missing the boat.' But, am I surprised that Joe was on the list? I must say 100%, I am. I don't know the ramifications of what happened but I do think it's a loss for the company.”

Joe and Booker worked together back in TNA as part of the Main Event Mafia, and also clashed over the TNA World Heavyweight Title when Joe was champion in 2008.
