Brock Lesnar's Next WWE Universal Title Defence Rumoured

Brock Lesnar's next title defence seems to be set - and it's not particularly soon...

Brock Lesnar's next defence of the WWE Universal Championship is reportedly set to take place in a few month's time - according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.

Lesnar is apparently scheduled to defend his title at SummerSlam on August 19 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

No opponent has been named for the match.

Lesnar has only defended the championship on three occasions this calendar year (not including a handful of short house show defences). He defeated Braun Strowman and Kane in a triple threat at the Royal Rumble pay per view in January, before beating Roman Reigns in the main event of WrestleMania 34.

Lesnar's most recent title defence came at the Greatest Royal Rumble in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, under controversial circumstances.

The bout was a steel cage match, and saw both Lesnar and Reigns crash through the wall of the cage together. Lesnar was deemed the winner, although Reigns appeared to have touched the ground first. WWE later incorporated this into the story of Reigns feeling mistreated by WWE management.

Lesnar won the title at WrestleMania 33 in April 2017, defeating Goldberg in a short but explosive match.

It's unclear at this stage who Brock's next opponent is likely to be. Reigns appears to have been moved into a feud with Jinder Mahal for the time being, while the babyface gathering most momentum on Raw right now may well be Intercontinental Champion Seth Rollins.

Braun Strowman is another candidate, although he would not be a fresh opponent for the Universal Champion.
