Brodie Lee Says He Wasn't Originally Supposed To Win The AEW TNT Championship

AEW seemingly changed their minds at some point...

On Saturday Night Dynamite, Cody defended the TNT Championship against Brodie Lee. While many believed The Exalted One had a chance of walking away with the belt, no one expected him to squash The American Nightmare in three minutes.

Brodie went on to hold the title for 46 days before losing it back to Cody earlier this week.

Mr. Brodie may never have got his hands on the TNT Championship if AEW had stuck to their original plans. He revealed on the AEW Unrestricted podcast he wasn't originally supposed to win the belt, but the young promotion's plans ultimately changed ahead of August 22.

"I believe that the original plan was for me to not become TNT Champion," Brodie said. "I'm kind of not privy to the nuts and bolts of it all, probably because I don't want to be because if I get a thought in my head I become quickly married to it, and then if something changes I go insane. So, I try not to know too much about what is supposed to happen and kind of just live in the moment… The match itself was presented to me like a week or two before it even happened, so I just wanted to train and look the part and do what was asked of me."
