Bryan Danielson’s first match in AEW against Kenny Omega was hailed as an instant classic, with the two kicking lumps out of each other for half an hour before it ended as a time limit draw.
Fan reaction to the much anticipated bout was overwhelmingly positive, and during an interview with 6 ABC Philadelphia, Danielson himself stated that the match might be his favourite in-ring experience from his career:
“When you look back on favourite matches, it's hard because there's a recency bias but it feels like my favourite experience in a match. My favourite experience before might have been wrestling Kofi Kingston at WrestleMania (35). But that, I think that may have topped it.
“But one of the things that I think in these moments where fans are just super into something is that how lucky am I to be doing this thing that I love, with this incredible reaction.”
The Danielson Omega match was awarded five stars by Dave Meltzer, the first match in Danielson’s career to receive this accolade.
