Bryan Danielson Reveals He Suggested 'Lloyd Boner' As His WWE In-Ring Name

It's not as stupid as some other WWE names, to be fair.

Current AEW star Bryan Danielson was recently asked about the process of changing his name to Daniel Bryan when he signed with WWE in 2009.

Speaking with Jeff Adams for Sports Nightly, The American Dragon was asked whether he regretted switching to something so close to his legal name.

"No, I think it works really well. Although when WWE, so I wrestled as Bryan Danielson for ten years, and then when I went to WWE, they wanted me to change my name. They asked me to send a list of names. William Regal was actually the one who suggested Daniel Bryan so that fans would be able to follow me easily from the independents to WWE," Danielson said.

While Regal's suggestion may have made the cut, some of the names Danielson himself pitched didn't make it very far.

"I had suggested things like Buddy Peacock and Lloyd Boner [laughs], so it was probably a smart move. Then also, it was an easy transition for fans to understand who I was after that run. Although I still imagine full arenas chanting 'Peacock, Peacock, Peacock'".

While the name 'Peacock' may well have been something to make Danielson laugh, the name 'Buddy' has much more significance, as it was the nickname of Danielson's father Donald (who passed away in 2014).

Danielson and wife Brie Garcia named their son Buddy as a tribute to him.
