Christian Cage Retires TNA World Heavyweight Title On IMPACT Wrestling
Cage will only carry the IMPACT World Championship going forward
Aug 20, 2021
A new era of IMPACT Wrestling is upon us, as Christian Cage returned to the IMPACT Zone for the first time in nine years, with the unified IMPACT/TNA Championship in his possession.
After soaking up the adulation of the fans inside the IMPACT Zone, Cage said he was back in IMPACT to look to the future rather than dwell on the past, and made the decision to retire the TNA World Heavyweight Championship belt, and will only carry the IMPACT World Title going forward.
The TNA Title was brought back by Moose in 2020 whilst IMPACT World Champion Tessa Blanchard was on a leave of absence. Moose declared himself champion and claimed Blanchard was purposefully ducking him, eventually unifying the two titles in a losing effort against Rich Swann at Sacrifice in March 2021.
This is Christian Cage’s first run with the IMPACT and TNA Championships, having previously reigned as NWA World’s Heavyweight Champion on two occasions when the title was TNA’s top prize.
