CM Punk Knew About Potential AEW Move While Filming 'Heels'

CM Punk has indicated he had an idea he would be joining All Elite Wrestling while he was filming for TV series Heels. 

Punk made his long-awaited return to wrestling with AEW earlier this month, ending a seven-year exile from the business by showing up at AEW Rampage: The First Dance. 

The 42-year-old was in talks with AEW boss Tony Khan for 18 months, during which time the Second City Saviour also worked on Heels - a TV series based around the world of professional wrestling. 

Punk has now admitted, while nothing was completely confirmed, that he was relatively sure he would be joining AEW while he was training in a wrestling ring for his Heels role.

Speaking to Variety, he said: "It wasn’t 100%, but I knew that’s what I was doing, if that makes sense. 

"It was just fortuitous, I guess. Here I am in a wrestling ring for this acting gig and I know, in the back of my head, I’m getting back into the ring in a few months anyway, so I figured it was two birds one stone. I got a little out of camp training."
