CM Punk Reveals Under No Circumstances Was He Allowed To Relinquish The AEW World Title

Tony Khan wasn't going to let CM Punk simply relinquish the AEW World Title

The third Summer of Punk hit a roadblock last week as the AEW World Champion revealed on Friday's edition of Rampage that he had sustained a broken foot and would require surgery. The injury occurred on Dynamite earlier that week.

While CM Punk may be injured, he did not relinquish the AEW World Title. Speaking on the latest Road To ahead of tonight's episode of Dynamite from Independence, Missouri, The Second City Saviour revealed Tony Khan told him under no circumstances was he allowed to give up the gold.

"I probably wasn't as clear as I should have been. I offered to relinquish the title and Tony [Khan] told me under no certain circumstances was I allowed to do that. It means a lot to me that this place believes in me enough to let me just go and get fixed," Punk said.

In Punk's absence, an Interim AEW World Champion will be crowned at Forbidden Door on June 26. A Casino Battle Royale will open tonight's Dynamite and the winner will face Jon Moxley. Whoever wins that match will advance to Forbidden Door and they will face the winner of Hiroshi Tanahashi vs. Hirooki Goto at New Japan Pro-Wrestling's Dominion show on June 12.
