Stephanie Vaquer’s departure from CMLL in order to join WWE was swift, with Vaquer announced as having signed a WWE deal by Shawn Michaels within hours of her CMLL exit being revealed, with speculation about her future ramping up after the recent AEW x NJPW Forbidden Show on June 30.

Whilst Vaquer posted a statement saying she had left on good terms ‘through the front door’ of CMLL, a report from Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio suggests that this is not quite true, with CMLL management upset over how Vaquer’s exit went down.

Per Meltzer, CMLL felt blindsided as they have never before been targeted for talent in such a manner by WWE, whilst CMLL partner New Japan Pro-Wrestling are also upset by events, as Vaquer had long been advertised to compete on their upcoming San Jose show, with plans now being rewritten.

Upon exiting CMLL, Vaquer was forced to vacate the CMLL World Women’s Championship and World Women’s Tag Team Championships, with her upcoming advertised World Title defence against Lluvia at Fantasticamania on July 13 changed to a three-way pitting Lluvia against Viva Van and AEW’s Willow Nightingale for the vacant title.

CMLL reportedly asked Vaquer to drop the titles before exiting, but obviously this has not come to be.
