Stephanie Vaquer Signs With WWE

WWE have signed Stephanie Vaquer

WWE have reached a deal to sign Stephanie Vaquer, hours after CMLL revealed that Vaquer was set to leave the promotion.

Rumours about Vaquer exiting the historic lucha libre promotion swirled earlier this week, with both WWE and All Elite Wrestling believed to have been interesting in securing her services. Eventually it was WWE who acquired Vaquer, with WWE’s Senior Vice President of Talent Development Creative Shawn Michaels announcing the signing on X/Twitter:

“Welcome to the WWE Family, @Steph_Vaquer. See you in Orlando!”

Vaquer earlier confirmed her exit from CMLL, thanking both her home promotion and New Japan Pro-Wrestling in a series of posts on social media:

“At this moment I stop belonging to the ranks of CMLL and NJPW. Clarify, I AM LEAVING THROUGH THE BIG DOOR, forever grateful to the WORLD WRESTLING COUNCIL AND NEW JAPAN PRO WRESTLING, and in the best terms.

“From today I vacate the CMLL World Women's Championship as well as the CMLL World Women's Couples Championship. For which I offer an apology to the fans. For obvious reasons, I will not be present at the next shows and I hope you can understand that the terms between companies are what lead to this statement.

“With Mexico in my heart and with the commitment to represent Mexican wrestling wherever I go. Infinite thanks to SR Salvador Lutteroth for his good wishes and also to all the unconditional support of my people and my colleagues. THANK YOU,” posted Vaquer.

Vaquer recently won plaudits for her match against Mercedes Moné at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door III on June 30.
