Cody Rhodes has debunked a rumour about why he left All Elite Wrestling.

Tony Khan's promotion has had a tumultuous few months and issues within the organisation only worsened after a backstage fight between CM Punk, Ace Steel, Kenny Omega, and The Young Bucks following the All Out pay-per-view on September 4. All five men were suspended while a third party investigated what happened, an investigation that has since reportedly ended.

The Elite now look to be on their way back to AEW, while CM Punk is reportedly in negotiations over a contract buyout. Ace Steel was ultimately released after he allegedly bit Kenny Omega and threw a chair at Nick Jackson during the backstage brawl.

Amidst the problems in AEW, a fan suggested Cody Rhodes may have left the promotion because of issues with The Elite or CM Punk but The American Nightmare has denied that was the case.

"I didn't leave because of the Bucks/Kenny. I'm forever bonded to those men over what we created and I remain very proud of it, and I didn't leave because of/or have issues with Punk. We got along. Not money, not booking, just a personal issue and my wanting to go for the big one," Cody tweeted.

Cody has reiterated since his WWE return at WrestleMania 38 that he left AEW because of a personal matter that both he and AEW President Tony Khan have agreed not to discuss in detail. Rhodes also noted it was the right time to leave as he wants to pursue the WWE Championship.

Rhodes was one of the founders of AEW with Khan, The Elite, and wife Brandi Rhodes in January 2019. He became a three-time TNT Champion during his time with the promotion.
