Cody Rhodes is back in WWE.

After six years away from the company - during which he performed for ROH, NJPW, IMPACT, and founded All Elite Wrestling - Rhodes returned to WWE at WrestleMania 38, being revealed as Mr McMahon's hand-picked opponent for Seth Rollins.

During his time away from Vince McMahon's organisation, Rhodes took several shots at WWE and Triple H in particular, including destroying The Game's proverbial throne with a sledgehammer at Double Or Nothing 2019.

Rhodes has previously made it known that Triple H is his favourite wrestler and Cody detailed speaking to The Cerebral Assassin ahead of his WrestleMania 38 match with Rollins.

"We did speak, and I think Triple H did it in such a Triple H fashion. Everybody had come on the bus to say hello, to talk a little bit about what may happen - the very last one was Triple H. My former assistant from AEW came as a friend and he knows the world's worst kept secret that Hunter is my favourite wrestler. That was a really...Jeez [wipes tears], this has been a wild, tear-filled weekend but that was just a good moment," Cody told talkSPORT.

"Also to see him healthy. I know retirement came as it did, but to be able to do him justice; not only to see my favourite wrestler that I wanted to model so many things after, but Seth being his protege and to give some of his fans service and perhaps moments for them and also Triple H. We as wrestlers, we're all marks and fans, even at the highest level which he has been. That was really touching.

"Especially, you've got to put it in perspective as many of you know, I talked a lot of smack. I destroyed his throne. I was very loud and vociferous and very angry. I was just angry. And that moment [with Triple H] there was no anger, because why would I be angry? WWE are paying me this absurd amount of money and I get to be me? I get to be me?! Especially come from where I had left here, there is nothing to be angry about. It's more a matter of one chapter ended – a beautiful chapter in AEW that I'm so proud of – and then to start this new chapter here." Rhodes continued.

"I just kept saying out there, I just kept saying 'finish.' I wasn't talking about the match, I meant finish as far as what's next? What I started here, I've got to finish that. But yes, Triple H and I spoke right before my match, I was very excited to see him."
