Cody Rhodes Granted Exception From WWE Swearing Ban For Raw Promo

WWE granted Cody Rhodes a swearing exception on Monday Night Raw

Cody Rhodes reportedly received a one-night reprieve from WWE's swearing ban.

A memo was reportedly distributed in the past few weeks by WWE President Nick Khan, Triple H, and Executive Vice President of Talent Dan Ventrelle which stated that WWE is a PG company and talent should not swear, not even on social media. The word "ass" is also a banned term because FOX doesn't wish to hear it on their network.

This has led to frustration amongst the WWE roster over the perceived "double standard" towards The Rock, who has used curse words across WWE programming and social media over the past several weeks. Talent have argued that since Dwayne Johnson is part of the TKO Board of Directors, he should be setting an example and following the memo's rules.

Amid talk of the circulated memo, Cody Rhodes was in a cursing mood on Monday Night Raw. In his response to The Rock, Cody said he didn't think Rock was a heel, just an "asshole." Rhodes later called Rock a "whiny b*tch" and questioned if Dwayne Johnson will bring his big energy or have "little d*ck syndrome" at WrestleMania.

Dave Meltzer has reported on Wrestling Observer Radio that WWE granted Cody an exception to the memo as they didn't want him to come off badly in comparison to The Rock's promo on last week's SmackDown.

"There was a memo. Everyone got it. They knew that he had to come back but there is absolutely a memo and there's been other reporters that have had it too so that's not a nothing. No one else is allowed to do that but he was given the opportunity to do that because they wanted him to stay babyface essentially. If he came off badly on this promo and Rock came off so great in Memphis, that's not what they want. But he [Cody] was fine," Meltzer said.

The Rock will team with Roman Reigns against Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins in the main event of WrestleMania 40 night one. Night two of WrestleMania will see Cody Rhodes challenge Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship.
