Cody Rhodes: It's My Job To Spotlight AEW Talent Who Deserve It

Rhodes explains more about his backstage role

While Cody Rhodes is very much perceived as AEW's version of John Cena, a big babyface who always finds a way to save the day and divide fans in the process, The American Nightmare's role behind the scenes will be spotlighted on the upcoming 'Rhodes To The Top' reality TV series.

Speaking about his position as executive vice president of live events and talent with TV Insider, Cody noted it is his job to spotlight AEW talent who deserve it.

"I feel vindicated that my actual job as the executive vice president of live events and talent is being seen. It's my job to do what others haven't done in the past for me: When someone is deserving or ready, give them [the spotlight]. Darby [Allin], Ricky [Starks], and Jade [Cargill] are prime examples. It is very comforting to see because there is the misconception that I'm the booker of AEW or that I even run AEW," Cody stated.

"Here you get the opportunity to see Tony Khan as such a unique leader. I help coach segments, produce content. The number one thing that is my job no matter how much of a wrestler I am is to continue building our roster so we are going to talk about AEW not only today but 30 years from now."

Following his return to AEW last week, Rhodes squared off against Malakai Black again on September 22 at Dynamite: Grand Slam. Unfortunately for the two-time TNT Champion, Black pinned his shoulders to the mat for the 1-2-3 once again.
