Cody Rhodes Praises Shaq’s In-Ring Performance
The NBA Hall of Famer made his AEW debut on last week’s edition of Dynamite
Cody Rhodes has spoken about his match with Red Velvet against Shaquille O’Neal and Jade Cargill at last week’s AEW: Dynamite ‘The Crossroads’ special, a match that exceeded most fans' expectations.
Speaking with Action Sports Jax, Rhodes reserved special praise for Shaq, saying:
“After it was over, I can tell you, [Shaq] has the bug. The one thing I did tell him, and we didn’t talk much, but I told him, ‘I think you’re a wrestler now.’ I meant that. There are matches people want to see, he took training very seriously, he brings eyes to our product and perhaps those eyes stay and watch the pure wrestling.”
The match had been built for months, with Cargill and Shaq getting the win in an entertaining - if not surprising - showing.
Rhodes made sure the NBA legend look great in his first major match - not counting his brief appearance in the André the Giant Memorial Battle Royale at WWE WrestleMania 32 - and judging by his quotes, perhaps we could be seeing Shaq in an AEW ring again in the not too distant future.
