The WWE Championship has been through several designs in the title's history and one particular design that is fondly remembered is the winged eagle WWE Title which the company used from 1988 until 1998.

Many have clamoured for the belt's return in recent years and Cody Rhodes has added to fans' hopes, revealing on After The Bell that he wants to bring back the classic design.

"I did do that once with the Intercontinental Title, it took a lot of work but it was the right call once we got there. I think there's a particular design of the WWE Championship that people are very fond of. I'd say hypothetically it really would be something to achieve the ultimate industry dream, being the best of the best ever in terms of that moment in time, and then perhaps give it a fresh coat of paint with the winged eagle [title]. That would just be something, that's all I can really say," Rhodes said.

Cody hasn't hidden his intention to pursue the WWE Championship since his return at WrestleMania 38 but when exactly he will face Roman Reigns for the WWE Universal Title ultimately remains to be seen.

Rhodes is currently still locked in a programme with Seth Rollins and they will face off in a rematch at WrestleMania Backlash on Sunday, May 8.
